I had similar issues when using loads of animated emoticons, I may be
wrong in saying this, but I think they still use resources even when
scrolled off of the screen.
Simplest way to try is to send shed loads of animated emoticons and
scroll them off the page, cpu still gets hit.
Then again the PC I was experiencing that on has pretty much had it.
