WLM 9 - Video kaput 'We are unable to run audio & video setup' mes

Hi there
I've seen a few posts on other boards relating to this problem. When I
updated from WLM2008 to 2009, Messenger suddenly refused to do video or audio
calls at all (giving a message that the Cam could not be started and may be
busy etc....)

When I try to run Audio & Video setup from the Tools menu, it returns an
error message that says 'We are unable to run audio & video setup'

I can log in fine and send and receive instant messages and see contacts and
all was fine before the upgrade from 2008 to 2009.

If someone could help with this it would be much appreciated - I normally
have video chats with my sister in Greece several times a week and am missing
these very badly!

Running Vista 32 SP1

Many thanks

Regards

Mike

Hi everybody

We're so many to have the same problem....

Someone could help us? Please

Microsoft could have a look to this problem. It seems many people can't use
video and audio chatting with WLM9. So nnice for other parts....

many thanks

Nicolas

Hi Mike,

Just out of curiosity, which camera are you trying to use anyway?

Like Nicolas said, this is a common compliant but there hasn't been enough data to really
determine what the problem is (at least I've not figured out the common link yet). I'd
suggest uninstalling the entire Live suite in the Programs and Features applet in the Control
Panel and going back to 8.5/2008 since this is obviously a feature you need/use.

Hi Jonathan
Thanks very much for the response
The camera is a Trust WB-6250X, but I think that this may not be the culprit
as I can't access the audio setup either (unless these two are inextricably
linked, of course)

Could you point me in the direction of a standalone download for WLM 2008 to
install once I have taken the 2009 suite off?

Thanks again

Regards

Mike

Guys

Sorted!

I uninstalled the Windows Live Suite from Control Panel and then googled to
find a Microsoft link for a download of WLM2008. Everything works fine now.
Wish it worked in WLM2009, though because the GUI is much nicer

I'll keep an eye out for a fix and hopefully this won't take too long!

Best regards

Mike

Hi Nik,

Yep I saw it, but like I told Mike, beyond downgranding I have no other advice right now.

I can tell you however that my ancient Intel CS430 webcam works fine though.

I've tried a very old Logitech QuickCam, and a brand new one (don't
remember the brand, just a cheap one to try to get around this problem),
and both have the problem. I'm going to try the downgrade trick.

Previously when I was using Windows Live Messenger 2008, video cam i
working fine. After upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 2009, it's no
working anymore. Same error message as the people in this thread

I'm using Dell XPS M1530 with Creative Webcam, running Vista Ultimat
64bit

Btw, Skype is working well with the web cam
