Ok.. its still beta, still an heads up just for the record:

The Contact window from WLM appears with two windows on the Taskbar.
When the preview option is turned on, one of the windows has my DP and the
other the full contact window.

Greetings,

This is a feature since the notification area icon is gone. If you don't like it and would
prefer it the way it was before, you can use my Messenger Taskbar Hider application:

Thanks for the app, it works great!

But I think its a bit far fetched to call it a feature.

Can you please give an example of an positive advantage to have both
"windows"?

Also, without the notification icon, is no longer possible to shutdown the
program, only to close the windows.

I guess that the workflow in 7 needs to be a bit better streamlined.

Jonathan Kay [MVP] presented the following explanation :

Yes it's gone in Windows 7, but it's easy to get it back.
Find the executable file for Live Messenger, right-click on it, and
find the option to run it in Vista-compatibility mode.
Start Messenger, and there's your notification area icon again. :-)

Also, the app seems to remove the "DP Only" from alt+tab as well (which is
good) but Flip 3D (Win+Tab) still shows it and is really strange to see the
small image on the middle of all the windows...
