Windows Live Messenger 2009 crashes during audio/video setup with my Intel PC
Pro Camera. Audio setup goes fine, but in next screen, clicking on "webcam
settings" immediately crashes WLM. See details below.

I don't think this is a driver problem because the camera works just fine
with other applications such as Yahoo Messenger.

I am running the released version of Windows 7 Home Premuim.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BEX
Application Name: msnmsgr.exe
Application Version: 14.0.8089.726
Application Timestamp: 4a6ce533
Fault Module Name: unknown
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Offset: 0460ae00
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Data: 00000008
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
LCID: 1033

Greetings Bob,

I too have the PC Pro Camera (CS430) and it works just fine in Messenger.

However, as this is a DEP error, it could be anything from malware activity to some other
video driver in the system.

As a thought, you could try turning off DEP for Messenger (c:\program files\windows
live\messenger\msnmsgr.exe) by following in the instructions here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ntion-settings

Thanks for trying to help out. Yes the camera is an Intel PC Pro CS430.

I tried your suggestion regarding DEP but Windows 7 objects, indicating
"This program must run with DEP enabled. You cannot turn off DEP for this
program."

The system has been fully scanned for malware. I am fairly certain this is a
WLM defect, especially since the cam works fine with other applications.

Barring any other ideas I plan on waiting for a maintenance release of WLM
2009 which hopefully will address this problem.

Intel CoreI 7 920

Experienced same problem twice on 64 bits Window 7 Ultimate now I am
without Window Live Messenger .

Installed and logged in without any problem but Messenger hang whenever a
conversation is initiated.

Microsoft need to go back to the drawing board to tidy up and make bloody
sure that such forced upgrade has been thoroughly tested and debug before
pushing it online, as it greatly inconvenient end users.
