WLM Data Execution Prevention Shutdown

Since downloading WLM v 8.5 on my Vista-32 bit OS, everytime I sign in, the
program closes and I receive the message:
"Windows Live Messenger has stopped working"
followed by:
"To help protect your computer, Data Execution Prevent has closed Windows
Live Messenger"

When I try to disable DEP for msnmgr.exe, I receive the message: "This
program must run with data execution prevention (DEP) enabled. You cannot
turn off DEP for this program."

I've uninstalled, checked I had the correct program supported by my system,
reinstalled....same thing.

Any suggestions?? (other than using Yahoo for all I.M. needs)

Greetings Les,

Are you using an Acer PC by any chance?

If so, this is a known problem with Acer laptops and one of the built-in pieces of software
they use.

You can find an updated version here (also you might want to look to see if there are other
patches for your PC on the Acer site):
