WLM Disconnects my modem whenever I start it.

Ok I had to reinstall my windows 7 the other day when my HD Crashed. Before
I had been having the issue where you start WLM and my modem would hang so
would WLM and I would have to unplug the modem/router then plug it back in
to reconnect to the internet. That issue all of a sudden had stopped well
having had to reinstall the problem is back.

If I start Messenger the modems send and receive lights stop and I have to
reset the modem as no web sites are browseable. Any idea whats going on
here?

In general you want to share the settings that are use by internet explorer.

Tools
Accounts
{each account}
Connection
in this area you usually want 'Always connect to this account using: NOT
checked.

Ok maybe I should of used a different description for the problem

I sign into Messenger Live and about 5 seconds into being there the modem
freezes. I have the light showing I have cable connection but for send and
receive there is nothing. I have to unplug the modem to get them back.
Sometimes however it doesn't happen at which point I think I have fixed the
issue but no such luck I opened it lastnight and bang it froze the modem
again.

Ok I just did something I should of tried before.

I signed in with my wifes Live ID and the modem didn't reset or anything.
Messages went out just fine. Seems its something to do with my contact list
so now my question is how to fix this. I have deleted the contacts a dozen
times over and still when I sign in the modem freezes and I have to unplug
and replug it to fix it.

Greetings David,

A lot of the time what you're describing is usually buggy firmware on the modem. You may
want to contact the manufacturer of your modem (or even their website) to see if there's any
update.

I once had something similar and nailed down the exact string of characters that caused the
problem to occur. Was a bit eerie to type it anywhere (say in Messenger to someone) and
boom, I'd be gone.
