Doesn't show quoting in newsgroups.

Is there a setting?

MS did away with that in Wave 4. They have no interest in Usenet or people
that use it.

But as someone pointed out, it doesn't work for mail either.

The option existed in WLM2009 in the 'plain text' settings for mail and
news(each had its own setting). The feature was removed from both mail and
news.

In html....the vertical bar(like Outlook's Html) is used for the prior
message text.

No. Just shoddy workmanship.

Not really. Microsoft couldn't care less with people using free
stuff. You need to buy Outlook 2010 to get all the functions you
need.

Before Bill Gates came to IT industry everything was free and
people were exchanging codes, software and ideas freely. Bill
Gates said this is crazy. You need to charge for your work and
look where he is and where others are in terms of bank balance!!!

Cite? Was Digital Research giving away CP/M, or DR DOS?

Sure CP/M was worthless because it was always bundled with a computer
(and nobody knew how to copy!) which nobody could afford!. DR DOS came
well after Uncle Bill started MSDOS so Uncle Bill set the standards.

The citation is we had a television program called History of Internet
(on BBC 2) and major figures like Steve Wozniack, co-founder of Apple,
were interviewed. Steve said that in those days people used to take
GW-Basic tapes at home and one geeky guy used to bring 4 copies of them
3 days later for people to share in the office until they got a letter
from Bill Gates himself that "you guys are copying my work and it is not
good for the industry". "If you guys pay for the tapes then we can
produce more products to make your life better".

The rest is history.

Then we agree :

"Microsoft couldn't care less" = "shoddy workmanship"

That's the outcome when someone's heart is not in their work. Poor (or
arrogant) attitude yields poor results (gigo). It's not like they are
incapable of doing it right (despite the corporate culture).

Truly, it would have been better had WLM never released.

Lol...they could use Hotmail since choosing plain text will place the '>'
on previous content..

Maybe Hotmail will provide nttp access in the future <eg>
