Hi:
I run windows 7 32 bits and the latest version of Live messenger.
I cannot get the audio to work (I have no webcam, so I don't know about the
video part).

When I want to setup audio using the wizard it tells me it cannot do so.
When i try talking to someone it says I have no soundcard in my system.
As a matter of fact: I have two sound devices: a realtek HD audio chip on
the mainboard and a Logitech usb headset. Both devices work fine with other
software and control panel says all workd fine as well.

Has anyone found a solution for this problem, cause it seams I'm not the
only one having problems

Thanks for reading

Gerard

Greetings Gerard,

Do other similar applications work with recording audio -- for instance, Skype?

Thanks for responding Jonathan,

I'n not sure what you mean. Do you imply that skype can be used for
recording audio and do you ask if that functionality works ok?
I never used skype for recording audio, I wouldn't know how so I checked
Skype's help and only found something on recording a voicemail welcome
message. I dont use voicemail for skype.
I use the usb headset for skype and the realtek HD audio for regular audio
playing. No mike or line input on the sound chip.

I haven't been recording audio in any other way as well, at least not for
some time and never since I reinstalled vista some months ago (upgraded to
win7 recently)

Hope I answerd your question

Thanks

Gerard

Hi Gerard,

When you're speaking on a VOIP application (Messenger, Skype, whatever), it's recording your
audio and transmitting it - when the other person(s) are speaking, it's receiving and playing
back their audio. That's all I meant.

Regardless it sounds like Skype is working fine, which at least shows the driver and inputs
are working alright. Messenger uses part of the built-in real-time communications API of
Windows and it sounds like they're either not working with your configuration or has been
damaged in some way.

Normally I wouldn't ask you to try this, but in this case it might be successful to fix the
problem - have you tried simply uninstalling Messenger and reinstalling it? That may fix a
component of any damaged installation that's causing this to fail.
