WLM downloading without permission

My practice has been to filter all my mail for six accounts through
MailWasher Pro, clear out unwanted items, and then download the remaining
mail into Windows Live Mail, which is my default email client, by
double-clicking the Sync button.

In WLM Options/General I have both 'Send and receive messages at startup'
and 'Check for messages every [30] minutes' unchecked. (30 minutes is grayed
out as a result). This morning I was too busy to look at my mail, but, about
an hour after I had booted my PC, six messages suddenly appeared in WLM
while I was writing a message to someone else. They announced themselves
with a joyful sound and a changed taskbar icon.

I have looked through all the Tools/Options and don't see how to stop this
incontinent inwards leakage which I regard as an unnerving breach of what I
had thought was a reasonably good security procedure. How can I make sure
that WLM only downloads messages at my command? I am pretty sure I had done
nothing to trigger the Sync button, though at one stage I had looked at my
newsgroups.

Known issue..
If working online, WLM will auto-poll accounts for new messages.

Is Messenger running?
Are you logged in to Windows Live?
Did you compose another email before receiving the new mail notification?

Currently the only way to avoid that bug is to close down WLM
after each use.

Why do you ask, Ron?
We know from past cases that this issue occurs regardless of
being signed in or not.
