Just installed Windows Live Mail and for some reason it isn't downloading the
folders I have in my hotmail account, it just downloads all messages to
"inbox"!?! It didn't do this on any windows install before. I'm using Win7
and the latest version of WLM.....

Anyone any ideas how to solve this please?

Just to clarify, I first added my hotmail account to WLM and used the default
http settings, then I deleted it and added it with manual POP3 and SMTP
settings, which downloaded my emails as described below, but in addition to
not downloading the folders, it showed every message as unread, and wouldn't
let me send emails!?!

Sounds like you installed that account as a POP account rather than a
HTTP account. Try setting it up again.
Note: When you delete a POP account in Windows Live Mail it deletes
all the messages that were in that account's mail folders.

POP3 supports the Inbox folder only. If you want to see all the folders
as they exist on the Hotmail server, the account in WLM must use the
HTTP protocol.

Login to your Hotmail account and see if the messages are still in the
Inbox.
If not, then check the Deleted folder.

Who told you to use pop3?

**And do it within the next 4 days...otherwise they will most likely disappear from the web folders.

Most likely some MS email, communicating the (then) pending demise of
WebDAV. Except that the communication was not all that clear on who should
(MSOE, MSOL, Entourage) change to POP3, and who (Windows Live Mail) does not
need to change.
