Greetings Duncan,

What is your networking scenario that you're in (home, work, etc.)?

Assuming the former, if you're using a third-party firewall application, try to disable or
even completely uninstalling temporarily to see if that's causing the problem.

Additionally, if you're using any router device, make sure you have the latest firmware from
the router manufacturer

hi i am at home and i use wireless. i am the only user on my laptop and i
made sure that wlm had all ticks throughout the different options and so
there cant be anything to do with the firewall. the company that makes the
router gives me regular updates via email and so everything is up to date.

I am also getting the same error past few days without changing anything from
end.

Also note that error are on two laptops running VISTA home premium and it is
still persistent even I use my office or home internet

Surprisingly Pidgin can login and maintain connection.

The only culprit I can see are the high ping times. ( I am in Abuja,
Nigeria, Africa) and get ping times to us as high as 1 sec/
