Thanks, Mike,
...but sure enough, the box is definitely checked. Again, if I insert pictures with a command from the toolbar, those photos go through fine. It's just the photos that are already in the received e-mail that don't go through. "Michael Santovec" wrote: > Tools, Options, Send, Mail, HTML Settings. Check the message source content of the original email that included the pictures.
I.e. they may point to a server rather than be actually imbedded and thus not forwardable. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Jim" <> wrote in message news:ED06A6CC-60D2-46F0-AF27-... > Thanks, Mike, > > ...but sure enough, the box is definitely checked. Good thought, Winston,
...but the e-mail I received was a forward already, so unless that sender's ISP strips and holds, I don't think that could be it. Plus, the incoming e-mail was over 200k, and when forwarded was 4k. This makes me think the problem is local. Thanks, though. If you would like, you may send me the problem messages and I'll take a
look at it. It's best if you zip the message so that I get an exact copy of it. To do that, do a File, Save As to an EML file of a problem messages. Include both the original incoming message and the Sent Items version that you tried to forward. Then Right click the saved EML files and select Send To, Compressed (zipped) folder. Then e-mail me the resulting ZIP file. e-mail: -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Jim" <> wrote in message news:27D07395-6EEC-4895-AC62-... > Good thought, Winston, > > ...but the e-mail I received was a forward already, so unless that > sender's ISP strips and holds, I don't think that could be it. I got the sample message from the original poster and this appears to be
a bug or limitation of Windows Live Mail (WLM). The MIME multipart/related has two ways of referencing embedded images. In the problem mail which was forwarded using Outlook 2002, the HTML IMG tag has: src=3D"07544401.jpg" and the MIME header for the referenced embedded image has Content-Type: image/jpeg; name="07544401.jpg" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: <002901c911d8$147882a0$ > Content-Location: 07544401.jpg The message is using the Content-Location tag to find the image. The more common HTML IMG tag would instead use the CID src=3D"CID:002901c911d8$147882a0$65c7a8c0@AlltechL LC.local" to reference the Content-ID and not even have a Content-Location tag. WLM doesn't seem to have a problem with displaying incoming messages using either option. And the message composition window for the forward doesn't seem to show any problem, but when you go to send the message, if the reference was to the Content-Location rather than the Content-ID, WLM generates code for that image as if you had not set the option to Send Pictures. Image references that used Content-ID get properly forwarded. Interestingly enough, Outlook Express 6 (OE6) which WLM is based on, will properly forward the message that used Content-Location converting to using the Content-ID in the outgoing message. I'm not sure why WLM lost that ability. The Content-Location is intended for mailing web sites (related web pages, images, etc.) without having to alter the HTML. It would not normally be used for messages composed in a mail program. I don't know why Outlook 2002 used the Content-Location rather than the generally preferred Content-ID. Possibly it's an artifact of Outlook 2002 forwarding the message and might even be dependent on the mail program that sent the original message to the Outlook 2002 user. I have some messages from Outlook 2003 that just used the Content-ID and no Content-Location. As for workarounds, I don't have any good ones. A quick and dirty one would be to do a Forward As Attachment. But that requires that the recipient go through an extra step of opening the attachment to read the message. A more tedious option would be to save the message to an EML file and then edit in Notepad replacing the value of the SRC= tag as the above example showed. Then double click the EML file and forward that. You could also drag the EML file to the folder in WLM and delete the original message and proceed from there. And if you have OE, it gives a 3rd workaround. You can save the original message to an EML file, open that EML file in OE, start the Forward there, then save that message composition to an EML file and open that EML file in WLM to complete the send. I bit hokey, but less work than option 2. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Michael Santovec" <> wrote in message news:eq#... > If you would like, you may send me the problem messages and I'll take > a look at it. When I receive a message with an active hyperlink, and then try to forward it, the hyperlink converts to plain text.
When I check the format, the message is now in Plain TEXT rather that HTML. I can then change the forwarded message to HTLM and then reactivate the hyperlink. The SEND format option is set to HTML. Any help on leaving the original message in HTML when forwarding would be appreciated. The source of the message in question is gmail.com HMZ Michael Santovec wrote: I got the sample message from the original poster and this appears to be a bug 11-Sep-08 I got the sample message from the original poster and this appears to be a bug or limitation of Windows Live Mail (WLM) The MIME multipart/related has two ways of referencing embedded images In the problem mail which was forwarded using Outlook 2002, the HTML IM tag has src=3D"07544401.jpg and the MIME header for the referenced embedded image ha Content-Type: image/jpeg name="07544401.jpg Content-Transfer-Encoding: base6 Content-ID: <002901c911d8$147882a0$ Content-Location: 07544401.jp The message is using the Content-Location tag to find the image The more common HTML IMG tag would instead use the CI src=3D"CID:002901c911d8$147882a0$65c7a8c0@AlltechL LC.local to reference the Content-ID and not even have a Content-Location tag WLM doesn't seem to have a problem with displaying incoming message using either option.
