WLM: unable to start conversation

I just upgraded from MSN Messenger 7.0 to WLM.
When I try to start a new conversation with friends (double click their
names), there will be a pop up saying "We are unable to start a converation
with xxx, you may wish to try again"
How can I solve this problem?
