Hi I have version 8.5.132.1018 of WLM on Windows XP and I did a backup of my
Custom emoticons on a USB key named (Backup-). Within
that folder I have Emoticons where I have over 300 GIF files. I have followed
all instructions and put them in the following path.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.Brian-H6524\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Messenger\\Ob jectStore\CustomEmoticons

After installing all emoticons, I have tried to uninstall & reinstall shut
down the PC.

I still don't see any of my emoticons within WLM. Can anyone help me and
tell me what to do?

Greetings,

Just to be clear, did you _just_ copy over the GIF files? If so, what goes in this folder
are actually .id2 (metadata) and .dt2 (gif/png) files and just putting the images there won't
work.

If they are the .id2/.dt2 files, then make sure that it's the exact same Windows Live ID that
you're using.

Hi Jonathan,

I copied all the old GIF/PNG files. In this file there was 1 .id2
& .dt2 files included which I also transfered to the custom emoticons folder.
As far as the same exact Windows live ID is the same username, but not the
same version. And how would I be able to tell which version I was previously
working?

Sincerely
Brian K.

Hi Brian,

Well actually there's no version where the GIF/PNGs were just accepted like this, the older
versions just didn't allow you to transfer them to another PC at all and used another format.
I think you may have just copied the wrong folder. If you don't have that many, just move
your GIF/PNGs somewhere else (say to a new folder within My Pictures) and manually add them
as you need them.
