WLM won't import contacts' name

Good Lord! WLM takes the cake when it comes to importing something as simply
as one's contacts :-( I don't rmember how Outlook Express imported contacts
but I doubt it was this difficult and Thunderbird does a wonderful job at it.

I hope the WLM team sees all these posts about importing contacts and they
make it simple to do so once the final version of the client comes out.

Anyone please let me know hw to import my contacts from Outlook Express or
from Gmail w/out having to use the Windows Address Book? Everytime I try to
import my contacts using the WAB, WLM won't import the names of my contacts,
only their email address and for strange reason, it imports over 400 contacts.

I'd like to import my contacts as a CSV file but don't see a way to do it in
WLM.

Thanks,

Sterling

Yay! I found a way to import my contacts' names.

Since WLM won't import my contacts' names using WAB, I had tried importing
my contacts using Live Hotmail (awful name, btw) but everytime I did it, WLM
wouldn't display them. Well, I clicked on the Sync button on WLM and now my
Hotmail contacts appear in WLM.

Of course now I have to be signed in to Live Hotmail to use my contacts.

BTW, a small correction: I meant to say that I didn't remmeber it wasn't
this difficult to import contacts into Outlook Express.

Yeah. That's how I originally tried to import my contacts (using a CSV file
from Gmail) but didn't find the/an option in WLM to do so. I think the only
options are WAB, a vBusiness something, an MS Outlook option and an option to
import the current user's contacts.

There isnlt one in WLM. Not much of any option in it. Been that way since
early on. I gave up requesting it. Maybe get in the focus group they listen
to, dunno. Whoever that group is don't know &%$ about e-mail or news
readers.

As it's looking right now, WLM might just be the reason why I either stay
with Outlook Express, switch to Thunderbird (though I'm not that big a fan)
or just stop using email clients.

I want to use WLM. It's nice looking (I hope someone makes a WindowBlinds
skin with the Graphite color) and it has some nice feather long missing but
at the sametime it's not all that customizable and some feature that I liked
in OE, like HTML edit, were taken out.

And now this about no option for a CVS import?

Bug them and maybe they'll add it. They won't listen to me, what do I know,
I've only been supporting their mail software since Windows Mail and News.

I find it hard to understand why they're ripped so much out of the previous
software (Outlook Express) upon which it is based on.

Ha! They won't listen to an MVP level contributor (you) but they'll listen to
me? I wish. I could bug them til the cows come home and won't change anything.

I think the only way that they'll listen to us is if we stop using their
product (WLM) and hopefully when they come around, we won't be too used to
using non-client based email to send messages.

(I mean, I sent the Live Favorites people an email regarding how that site
handles tabs but haven't heard from them (and doubt I will), so I switched to
Google Bookmarks. Goodbye Live Favorites.)

I hear what you're saying. I don't understand how something that was
supposed to be an improvement (OE-to-WLM) is really more limited than what it
was supposed to replace.

Yep.

Another thing that I hate about WLM is that if I embed an image into the
message's body, it'll automatically resize the image. You can drag the images
of the image to its original size but that's work that OE didn't required.

I'd say aside from Windows Live OneCare (I'm a subscriber), all the products
that Microsoft has slapped on the "Live" brand, I haven't liked one. WLM
looks to be the next addition.
