Hi

Has anyone had success in syncing a WM5.0 device using AS 4.1? For me, it
cannot always detect the device and then when it finally does, it just tries
to sync endlessly, without any data being transferred?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Kind Regards

Ricky

Are you running any firewall software? What version of Windows are you
running on the desktop?

OS is WIN2K, SP4.

I'm running Zone alarm, but I have added the passthru for all components of
AS.

You need to tell Zonealarm that the IP addresses of the windows mobile
unit is part of the trusted zone 169.254.2.1 - ...2

Hiya

Thanks for your reply, do u mean that it's ok to hard code that IP address,
or does it vary on different machines?

Kind Regards

Ricky

It should be the same on any device. It's assigned by ActiveSync's driver
for the device.

It will be the same with every WM5 Pocket PC you connect to your desktop:
169.254.2.1

(Tested on my two WM5 devices. Also see
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/ind...3&p=555&more=1 for more
information on the ActiveSync networking model of WM5 if interested - I
explain a lot of networking secrets in there.)

Whoo hoo! it works!

Thanks guys.

I have had to reduce the internet security in Zone Alarm to 'Medium' for AS
to work until discovering this.

I assumed the IP address supplied by my wireless router (device also has
wi-fi) was the ip address the PPC used. Obviously AS has different idea, and
given AS no longer works wirelessly, that makes sense.

You can try each method as the following;

¡P Did you install non-Microsoft firewall software on you PC? If so,
you might need to configure the software to allow the following ports in
order for ActiveSync to function: 5678, 5679, 990, 26675, and 5721.

¡P Remove all antivirus first and try it again.

¡P you might need to disable the LAN configuration tools.
