Hi,
Are you able to access internet from the device when it is connected to the desktop? In order to sync data with Outlook you will need to set up a partnership with the desktop. To set up a partnership, you will need to click on "Set up your device" on the WMDC UI. Thanks, Abdulkadar This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi Abdulkadar,
Thanks for your answer. I can access the internet when connected to the desktop. I have already setup a partnership. I mentioned in my initial post that I was trying to delete and restablish it. I see the name of the device in the WMDC UI, but there is no option available to delete it through the UI. I would like to understand how I could: 1. Gain more information about why the device driver occasionally does not load on Vista, 2. Where is partnership information stored, so I can delete and recreate it. Uninstalling or reinstalling the WMDC does not delete partnership information. Is this in the registry or in a file somewhere? 3. What is the "Server ActiveSync" that this is trying to sync with, from the error message? Cheers, Philippe "Abdulkadar [MSFT]" <> wrote in message news:%... > Hi, > > Are you able to access internet from the device when it is connected to > the desktop? > > In order to sync data with Outlook you will need to set up a partnership > with the desktop. Hi,
You can send me the log file located at \windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log file for us to see what goes wrong during driver installation. You can take a look at it too, if you want. To end a partnership disconnect the device. On the WMDC UI go to Mobile Device Settings. There should be a link called "End a partnership". Click on it and it will take you to the page where you can delete your partnership. Server ActiveSync is the server running that synchronizes data between the device and the server/desktop. Thanks, Abdulkadar This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hi Abdulkadar,
When the device is not connected the only link availabe is: Connection settings. When trying to connect (if the device driver loads) then I get the same message as below: >>>> --------------------------- >>>> Windows Mobile Device Center >>>> --------------------------- >>>> Changes to synchronization settings with Server ActiveSync could not be >>>> made at this time. >>>> --------------------------- >>>> OK >>>> --------------------------- The WMDC interface then shows "error" at the bottom left. When in this state I click on Mobile Device Settings > More, I have 3 choices: Setup your device, Connections Settings, Backup and restore. No link for managing partnerships is there. If I select Setup your device WMDC crashes with this error: --------------------------- Windows Mobile Device Center --------------------------- There is a problem with your connection. Please disconnect and reconnect your device and try again. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- Clicking OK yields: Error starting connection settings: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at Microsoft.WindowsMobile.DeviceManager.Partnership. Resolution for the community's benefits:
Hi Adbulkadar, Before going through with this (as it would have meant more work), I decided to try to try the repair option from within Outlook 2k7 account setup. This started replication again fine. I am certainly having some fun with WMDC I thank you for your help, but certainly hope not to take up any more of your time (and mine! ) with WMDC. Kind regards, Philippe From: Abdulkadar Khambati [private.php?do=newpm&u=] Sent: 06 March 2007 19:25 To: Jan, Philippe Subject: RE: WMDC / Vista / WMDC6 / PPC 2003 The errors seem to be related to Outlook. Can you try out the following and see if that helps? 1) Delete your outlook profile. You will loose your outlook data. If you don’t want to delete your profile skip step 1 and 3. 2) Repair outlook. 3) Create a new profile 4) Delete the partnership from WMDC. 5) Set up a new partnership. Thanks, Abdulkadar ________________________________________ From: Jan, Philippe [mailto .]Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 1:46 AM To: Abdulkadar Khambati Subject: RE: WMDC / Vista / WMDC6 / PPC 2003 Hi Abdulkadar, I did what you suggested and encountered the same result. I then decided to hard reset the pocket device. I then had the opportunity to setup a partnership and it does synchronise only occasionally. After a reboot of the Vista desktop it will sync, but after a while (e.g. the day after), I get the following error: wmdc Error: 6 : Caught exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800706BE): The remote procedure call failed.
