WMDC not starting

Hi!

I’m having a problem starting WMDC. The process is located in the task
manager but there is no GUI available. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several
times without getting any closer and there are no log files created for the
WMDC and WmdHost applications. All inbound/outbound WMDC ports on the
firewall are opened. When I attach my HTC TyTN running WM5 with the USB cable
an event warning with ID #4 from WcesComm is generated telling: “More than
one Windows Mobile-based device cannot be connected at the same time.”

Software:
Vista Ultimate latest version
Live OneCare version 1.5.1890.18
WMDC version 6.0.6783.0

Regards

Hi Christian!

Thanks for your answer! Yes I have rebooted and reconnected my device
several times without solving the problem. I’m enable to synchronize with
Media Player, but that is not desirable. I have all my contacts and calendar
info in Outlook 2007 and have a wish to synchronize that some time. My PC as
been through an upgrade from XP SP2 with ActiveSync 4.2 and yes that worked
excellent. In July 2006 I joined the Beta program of Vista and had to
uninstalled ActiveSync before the upgrade of Beta 2. The WMDC UI was
available, but I couldn’t sync with my device at all. When I so upgraded to
RC1 the WMDC UI disappeared and I haven’t seen it since. The WMDC process is
located in the task manager after I’m launching it manually and there is no
UI available.

Hi Christian!

I upgraded from RC1 to RTM (build 6783) using the 32-bit version. The WMDC
UI is not visible, but the process is available in the Windows Task Manager
after I manually is clicking on the shortcut from the desktop or from the
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Windows Mobile Device Center. The ceappmgr
application is working fine, so there is no connectivity issue with the
device. Before I upgraded to Beta 2 I deleted the partnership with Outlook
and uninstalled the Active Sync. No partnership has been created with WMDC.

I have completely uninstalled WMDC and reinstalling it several times using
the
- setup file in %windir%\WindowsMobile
- Windows Update
- https://www.microsoft.com/windowsmob...icecenter.mspx,
but there are no changes in the behavior of WMDC.

In the %windir%\WindowsMobile folder I have created two config files as
described in the following link:
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/wmdc/debug/index.htm, but no log files are
created in the TEMP folder, even if the WMDC process is running. Why is
there no log file created?

Finally the problem is solved! The WMDC process was using under 2MB, so I
followed your workaround and deleted the CLSID key
{3B5AA27A-CBF9-48C9-96F8-4ACE84FB8512} and started repair on WMDC, restarted
the PC and now I’m finally synchronizing with my device with Outlook. So a
great thanks for your support and expertise…

Best regards,

DO NOT RUN Windows Live One Care. There is a conflict with that and Windows
Mobile Device Center. There was also a new version of Mobile Device Center
posted around 2/23/07 and is dated 1/31/07 (920701). De-install your old
version and re-install. You will have to re-boot your machine and de-install
the old device driver for the Pocket PC. I use Vista 32-bit Business and
don't have Outlook 2007 running to synch.

I for one have posted over and over in this newsgroup that I never ran a
beta of WMDC or of Vista and yet I cannot even open the WMDC program.

I'm not alone based on some other people's posts.
