WMDC suddenly cannot find HTC Touch Pro

I have had my laptop with Vista on it for almost a year now. I just bought a
new HTC Touch Pro in November and it worked fine with WMDC.

All of a sudden around Xmas not only would the phone no longer sync, but
Vista refuses to recognize it when plugged in. The charging light comes on
and the phone acts like it wants to sync, but I don't even get the USB
connect sound from my laptop anymore.

Other devices have connected without a problem. I even tried a different,
but exact same model phone to no avail. The other phone would not connect
either.

I have done a system restore to a point when I knew it was working. I have
also tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMDC with my phone plugged in. The
only note was that during the installation was that it said "Unidentified
device installed successfully."

I haven't installed extra firewalls or antivirus software in that time.
Please Help!!!

Could you explain what you meant by "..the phone acts like it wants to sync,
but I don't even get the USB connect sound from my laptop anymore." Does the
phone appear under My Computers when it is connected to the PC? Also you
mention that other devices connect without a problem so the issue here would
be definitely related on the device side or the cable. If you are using the
same cable to sync other devices, then the cable also can be ruled out.

Raj,

When the phone is connected to the laptop I receive the option to have it
use Active Sync or Disk drive. That's normal when it connects. However, I
do not receive a connect sound.

I have not tried switching cables although I may try that in a few days when
I get home. However I did try a different phone and it did not work.
