WMDC works only when started as Administrator

I have still the problem with 0x85010014 (which I posted on 12-Jan-2009).
But now I have a workaround:
- I ensure that wmdc.exe, wmdhost.exe and outlook.exe are not startet
- I start WMDC as Administrator
- I start Outlook as Administrator
- I connect my device

In the background also wmdhost.exe starts. When WMDC starts the sync I get a
warning that there happened a change on the server because all has to be
synchronized again (the german message text is "Auf dem Server wurde eine
Änderung vorgenommen, die eine erneute Synchronisierung aller Elemente auf
Ihrem Gerät erfordert. Führen Sie eine manuelle Synchronisierung durch.").
The sync needs it time but afterwards every changed is synced at once -
until I disconnect the device.
If I connect the device again I get the sync error 0x85010014.

If I start WMDC normally (not as Administrator) I see in the SysInternals
procmon the following errors:
WmdHost.exe 4532 RegOpenKey HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SQMClient ACCESS DENIED
Desired Access: Read/Write
WmdHost.exe 4532 RegOpenKey
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Product Version ACCESS DENIED
Desired Access: Read/Write
WmdHost.exe 4532 RegOpenKey
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Languag eResources ACCESS DENIED
Desired Access: Read/Write
WmdHost.exe 4532 RegOpenKey
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Languag eResources\InstalledUIs
ACCESS DENIED Desired Access: Read/Write
WmdHost.exe 4532 RegOpenKey
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Common\Languag eResources\InstalledUIs
ACCESS DENIED Desired Access: Read/Write

I wonder if this has something to do with may problem?

Any suggestions are welcome
Markus

Hi,
There is an application that is preventing WMDC from accessing the registry.
That is why you are getting the Access Denied errors. Have you tried
logging in as an Administrator for the local box?

I'm not sure what you mean with "logging in as an Administrator for the
local box". But my account belongs to the administrators group. As far as I
know this is under Vista not enough to write the registry under HKLM. You
also have to run your program explicitly as Administrator (because of UAC).
This I can understand. But I doubt that every user has to run WMDC as
Administrator under Vista. There must be something else wrong.

Any ideas?
Markus

Hi,
First I disable UAC because of the headache it presents. However WMDC
should work with UAC. The issue is that WMDC can't write to the registry.

Did you consider an uninstall, reboot and reinstall of WMDC?
