WMI fails to connect to computer on Vista start

Services record WMI as running - auto.
The Events record errors on each Vista start.
This has occurred on ever boot of Vista since installation.
Vista installation did not indicate any installation errors?
Event 28
wmimgmt.msc Console WMI properties - records error - connection to computer
failed - Also message that WMI needs to be updated to a newer version etc
This WMI failure prevents
Installation of VS2005 SQL Express
Installation of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition
Visual Studio SP1
This is catastrophic!
Any suggestions?
