All my mp3 tunes are on an external drive. No matter how long or short the
tune is, the player distorts the music briefly with about 14 to 20 seconds
left to the songs. If I put the tunes on my desktop, "c" drive, playback is
fine. If I use the external drive with win xp and an older version of media
player, playback is fine. I have a 250 gig Simpledrive External Storage high
speed usb. Tech support for Simpledrive says its not their problem since it
works with other versions of windows and wmp. Any ideas?

If you have a Sigma Tel audio adapter, as a workaround until Sigma Tel updates
their driver, right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the
Taskbar and select Playback Devices. In the Playback window, highlight Speakers
and press the Properties button. On the Enhancements tab, check the "Disable
All Enhancements" checkbox. Press Apply. Press OK.

Wow, Cal Bear, awsome....IT WORKED. Thank you very much. I forgot to mention
that I do have a Sigma Telaudio adapter. I wonder why this trouble only
affected playback from my external drive and not from the "c" drive right on
my pc. The tunes sound the same without the so called "enhancements".

You're welcome.

Strange that it would only affect the playback from your external drive -- just
one of those "PC mysteries" I guess.

You should occasionally check for updated Sigma Tel audio drivers.
