WMP 12 Viewing With Windows 7

Hi:

I recently purchased a Toshiba L455-S5980 laptop running Windows 7 with
WMP 12 installed.

Using Windows Live Mail when I open a ,wmv file a small WMP screen appears
in the upper left which I can manually open to full view.

However, is there any setting that would allow WMP 12 to open .wmv files
similar to XP when they were larger and not having manually to further
expand them?

Thanks,

ColTom2

Instead of maximizing the WMP window, drag to a larger size and then
close the application. See if it will open to the larger size next
time.

Hi Mike:

No it will not retain the size when closed.

But what is strange is that some .wmv files will open to varying sizes.
They all open to the small screen initially, but some not all, will auto
open to varying screen sizes shortly thereafter. The Win7 sample .wmv file
will auto open to full screen. However, I sent an email with an XP sample
..wmv file and it auto opened to about 50% of full screen.

I have no idea as to why the varying screen sizes as noted.

Thanks,

ColTom2

Here's the real answer:

In WMP12, look under View/Video Size menu. There are two relevant choices
here: Fit video to Player on resize, and Fit Player to Video. You want Fit
Video to Player on Resize. Once you've checked that one as your choice,
resize WMP12 to the size you want, and close it. By implication of the
menuing alone - and my own experience (lacking a url to send you to
myself) - this should work in the way you say you want, loading EVERY media
file in the same sized window.

Hi Stephen:

Thanks for your posting and I tried your recommended setting "Fit Video to
Player on Resize" and closed WMP, but it would not save my selected size.

So I changed the setting to the other "Fit Player to Video" and that at
least keeps a full screen rather than the original smaller one. This suits
me fine.

BTW both items were checked when I first opened View size.

Thanks,

ColTom2

I'd recommend then that you uninstall and reinstall WMP12. Sometimes the
best path is done for you by the install/setup program.

Hi Stephen:

WMP 12 is not listed in the Uninstall Programs. Just how would I go about
uninstalling if it is not listed? In fact, I have Belarc Advisor installed
and it does not appear in that either.

It is listed in All Programs however....

Thanks,

Tom

WMP is under 'Turn Windows features on or off', then after the list of them
comes up, select Media Features, and under that is WMP. Unchecking, then a
reboot to commit/flush current transactions, then go back to Control
Panel/Programs and Features/Turn Windows Features on or off/Media Features
and re-check the box for Windows Media Player.

Hi Stephen:

Thanks for the info, as it is a case of "live and learn". I turned off
WMP, rebooted and turned it back on as you referenced; however, by doing so
it wiped out all my customized Display settings back to default. I tried
doing a SR to see if I could get them back, but I guess once they are
changed back to default you have to start all over again with your display
customization.

Anyway thanks for the info....

Hi Stephen:

I just wanted to let you know that after I turned the WMP Windows features
off and back on WMP now works fine and will retain size settings.

I also learned that I could save my Display settings, which I did not know
previously when I reestablished them. Now if it ever happens again all it
takes is one simple click.

Thanks again,

ColTom2
