wmp 9 will not delete files in library or on hard drive

wmp 9 will not delete files in library or on hard drive.
When I select files and click on delete nothing happens.
Any ideas?

That is normal. The file is just deleted from the wmp9
view. By default the wmp9 will not delete files from the
hard drive. You can have the wmp9 to do this by setting
the correct option (see under Tool->Options)

I am aware of the options and how to configure. But I
can't even get wmp to delete the file from the wmp view.
sometimes they will delete temporarily, but if I refresh
the view, the files re-appear.

Under WMP's Tools:Options:Media Library, do you have Monitor Folders set?
WMP may simply be scanning files that are present in Monitored
directories...
