If you have any WMP plug-ins installed, try disabling these first.
Uninstalling and re-installing WMP might help too. Go to Control Panel -
Programs and Features - Turn Windows features on or off. Uncheck
"Windows Media Player", under "Media Features". Reboot the PC when the
uninstall has finished. Then, go back to Turn Windows features on or
off, check "Windows Media Player" again, and reboot once more.
Another thing worth trying is restoring the media library: in WMP, go to
Tools - Advanced, and select Restore media library. Note that restoring
the library will make you lose all play counts, and possibly ratings too.
