I have a lot of CDs loaded onto my computer and I play them using Windows
Media Player. Every now and again I notice an album is missing. The folder is
still there, the files are gone. And so I have to re-rip the CD. How do I
stop Windows/Vista/WMP/Whatever from deleting my music?

You are specific seemingly, that the folder that contained
the tracks is now devoid of some, and you notice it happens
"every now and then"?
The obvious questions being have you inadvertently over-written
or moved them? Is it always the same tracks that go missing?
And what file type do you rip them as: cd-da, wav, wma, mp3 etc?

Possible reasons for this is,

1- file/disk coruption
2- deleting from WMP lists can delete the file from the computer
(You can turn this off in the options area)
3- Files being moved sometimes people make a disk or update their mp3 player
and the whole file moves instead of copying
4- Someone else is messing up your files (unintentionaly, or not, it
happens)

Do you still see the missing album in WMP's library? If "Rearrange music
in rip music folder" is checked in WMP's Options - Library, it's
possible that WMP has automatically moved the files to a different
folder, of which the name will be something like <album artist> - <album
title>.

Regards
