WMP distorts before end of track

I like WMP; however, whenever I play tracks from my WMP library, they distort
about 5 seconds before the end of the track. This happens to every track I
have ripped to my WMP. Is this done intentionally in order to make me want
to purchase an upgrade....or, is this something that can be fixed ?
I tried a free version of Mediamonkey recently and I didn't have this
problem...in fact, audio quality was excellent.
Should I delete WMP and just go with Mediamonkey ?

This sounds like it could be caused by crossfading, is that turned on?
Try updating your sound card drivers to the latest version.
