WMP is not adding FLV, MP4 and other files to the library!

When searching for media files on my pc, WMP is not adding flv and mp4 videos
to the library. It just skips all those files. How can I include these video
files in the library as well?

Thanks for the reply, however, I have already installed K- lite codecs, and
WMP does play flv, mp4 and other file types, but when it comes to adding them
in the library it simply skips them. I doesn't include the flv files in the
library when searching for media files.

How can I get to have flv and mp4 video files to be included in the library.

regards.

Please note that it's not considered smart to install any codec pack, as
they often cause more problems than they solve.

To make WMP add FLV and MP4 files to the library, some changes need to
be made to the registry. Copy/paste everything between the dashes below
to Notepad and save it as a file called WMPFLV.reg. Double-click this
newly created file to import it in the registry. The REG file below is a
modified version of the file at

Please don't ever set UserApprovedOwning. That's extremely reserved for my
usage only.

It's unsupported and deprecated. Please please do not set it. It's not
going to do anything "bad", but :: that's a user only setting that nobody
but the WMP interfaces should be setting. Please.

WMP plays nice. =)

Thanks,

I did add this to the registry but the problem is still there. When
searching for video files the WMP does not add flv and mp4 files to the
library. It ignores them.

Can you suggest a solution?

The registry settings in my previous post should be enough for WMP to
add them, so something else must be going wrong here. Did you check if
everything got added to the registry successfully, using regedit? Are
you sure that the files are located in a folder that is monitored by
WMP? Maybe the files are already in the library, but in another
category, such as "Other Media"? Does WMP add other video file types,
such as AVI or WMV, to the library?

One thing that might help is rebuilding your library by following the
instructions at http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html#medialibrary . Note
however that you will lose all playcounts, and possibly ratings too, by
doing this.

My apologies, Zach, I didn't know about this. I'll remember not to
include it anymore the next time someone needs these registry settings.

If the files were already added to the library, they're under "Other" at
this point. They woudl need to be removed from the library and readded.

I'm running Windows 7, I've used the registry entry for MP4 files... and
they're still not showing up in my Media Player's Libraries. Nor are my M4A
files.

The files play fine if I select them in Explorer's Libraries, it'd just be
nice if Media Player would work as it should and show them in its own Library.

That doesn't make sense, as these registry setting shouldn't even be
needed on Windows 7; WMP 12 has built-in support for MPEG4 file types.
Did you try the things I suggested in my previous message?
