WMP will not shutdown and continue playing in background

I've had this problem with Windows Media Player for several months now. I've
tried numerous reformats of my harddrive to see if that solve the problem and
tried updating WMP to it's latest version.

My problem is when exiting WMP, it will continue to play in the background
and will interfere with my Media controls on my keyboard (WMP is not my
primary media player so this proves a problem). I've tried ending the
'wmplayer.exe' process many times, only to have this problem spring up again.

I was wondering if this function is part of WMA itself, but I found no way
to turn it off in the Options so I can now only assume it's a problem.

My WMP version is 10.00.003643 and i'm running on Windows XP SP2.

What are you thoughts and what can I do to stop this problem?

I am looking for the solution to this problem as well. MP started doing this
a month or so ago and it is getting to be annoying!
