Hi, seems to be an old problem, quite some forums mention it, but all
suggested fixes I used did not work so far.
The simple problem is that I cannot play wmv files direct from the Internet,
having all Windows updates installed, new laptop with Windows Vista home
premium, IE8 and WMP11. Changed cookies, WMP settings, unabled McAffee
Firewall as suggested in other forums, but nothing helped. Tried
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ice/0106.mspx:
"Why do I get error C00D10B3 when I try to stream content?
Error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is
located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located on a
removable storage card, insert the storage card."
Also did the "Overrides other commands" click in WMP...
I can download the wmv file and play it, no problem, but when I try to play
directly from the Internet, nothing happens. The player just says "ready" in
the status bar, no error message. If I click right click on the screen I can
select the error details where it says:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the
Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located on a removable
storage card, insert the storage card." When I click "Web help" on the pop up
window, nothing happens. I am connected to the Internet and "offline" is not
ticked anywhere.
Wanted to uninstall and reinstall WMP 11, but learned this does not work as
well. Any other idea why this very easy task with newest Windows software
does not work. I do not have any fancy software, add-ins, tools etc. Laptop
is a few weeks old and playing wmv from Internet Explorer 8 never worked so
far.
I also tried differnet webpages with WMV videos, same issue.
Great if someone could help.
Thanks

Do you have this issue with all online videos or just .wmv files?
Maybe the following link would be worth a look:

Thanks John, saw those fixes already. Only files for WPM make problem, Adobe
flash is working well for example.
Problem is really still that my WPM thinks it is offline and I cannot get it
to be online.
"Work offline" is not clicked and I also clicked "Connect to the Internet
(overrides other commands), however, tried in the WMP11 to click on (online
store) and then it really says that I am working offline in the WMP Window...
amazing. There must be more than me having Vista premium home, WMP11 and
McAffee installed on new laptop. Noone has same problem?
