Thanks for the post tried but it did not quite work.. Yet it did put me on
the right path.
Somehow (??) WMP was sending the cd-audio signil to the speakers and no to
the default spidf out device. I do not know why did the change ahppen. As I
could not see how to change the setting through wmp interface, I disabled the
speakers in device manager and now wmp has no choose but to go through
spdif-out for cd-audio as well.
Still wondering how the change occured in the first place..
