WMP11 in Vista

Hello, I am in need of and would be grateful of assistance.

I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 (I think) on Acer Aspire 5738Z. Vista
Home Premium was loaded to the lap top on purchase and has not knowingly
altered apart from automatic updates.
WMP 11 has previously worked fine but will now not open. This is whether try
to open it myself or something else e.g. movie clip from website wants to
open it. WMP11 is set as my default player for everything.
I have recently loaded Sony PMB from the disc winch came with a recently
purchased Sony Camcorder. (Both the Camcorder and the Lap Top were purchased
in UK). PMB is working fine but when I initially tried to play recordings
from the Camcorder I had to use Acer Arcade Delux as WMP11 would not open.
This is when I first became suspicious that WMP11 was not working properly.

Any help wil be Appreciated.

If you create a new user account in Control Panel, log in on that
account, and try to start WMP there, does it work then?

If it doesn't start on the other account either, go to Start - All
Programs - Accessories, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as
Administrator. In Command Prompt, type the following:

sfc /scannow

and press Enter. Let it run until it completes, and reboot. Does WMP
open again now?
