I've been using WMP12 for about 2 weeks and here is what I'm finding out as
problems. When I say problems, I refer to functionality that old versions of
WMP had but are not working in WMP12

1. Crossfader... I just does not work well anymore. Yeah, it does work for
the last 1/2 seconds but for that, you might as well not use it. Please fix
this.

2. Edited Tags...When you had a song that had an incorrect tag, you used to
be able to change it and it would show up in the library corrected. Now when
I change a tag, it will display changed but the song will still be classified
under the old title bar. Please fix this.

3. Sticky on search... In the past, if I had my cursor on a row in the
library list, and if I then clicked on the genre column to sort by genre, the
library would resort by my cursor (highlighted) row would still be my active
row, Now in WMP12, the cursor is at the top (first row) and now I have to
scroll through my list to get back to where I was.

Microsoft, PLEASE fix these bugs. So many people have knocked WMP as a tool
and I stuck up for the tool so please don't let those people make me eat my
words. ADDRESS these issues and make WMP the best tool on the market.

joe...

With 'title bar', do you mean the headers that group songs of the same
artist together? These headers could be showing the album artist instead
of the contributing artist, which might explain why they don't change,
if you just edit the contributing artist tag.

Tim,

You are correct sir. The group header records do show album artist and I was
changing contributing artist. I guess I don't know why some of my songs have
different album artist and contributing artist. When I look at the tags, all
I see if the contributing artist information. How does WMP decide on what is
the album artist because it's wrong on many of my songs.

ok, this is weird.

My library will not put all of the songs by the same artist unless I add
ALBUM ARTIST as a column. Once I do so, it looks like everything sorts
correctly. If I remove the ALBUM ARTIST, then I'll get songs by a different
artist showing up in an other artists list. More WMP12 'features'

While I'm not happy having to display this extra column, it does solve my
problems.

oh yeah, it looks like the ALBUM ARTIST name is derived from the directory
the song is stored under. For example, I have a catch all directory called
'HOLDING'. For those songs in that directory, the ALBUM ARTIST is listed as
HOLDING. Another screwey thing.

That really surprises me, WMP should be getting the album artist only
from the tags stored in the actual file, not from the folder name. Are
you sure it's not the other way around? If the "Rearrange music in rip
music folder" setting is enabled in WMP's Options - Library, WMP will
automatically rename the containing folder to match the album artist and
album title.

WMP doesn't get any data from the Folders/Directories. Those are shell
artifacts that the player doesn't need to know about. It gets them from
metadata in the files themselves. =)
