Two days back I used the update scanner on my home laptop running XP pro. I
opted for the express update and the scanner came up with a long list and
about 50 MBs of download. I started dloading and first it d/loaded the new
d/load patcher so that d/load can continue from breaks. It took me about 6
hours(3 sessions) on dial up to complete the downloads.
However while downloading If I double click on the winupdate icon in the
notification area no popwindow opened up. After the d/load was complete no
installation activity happened. I restarted and reconnected to the net. Again
the win auto update notified me of more available updates. I followed the
link and again used express d/load which again came up with a list of 21
updates and 13 MB.
this time I click on the update icon and I could get the pop window giving
the d/load status. 2hrs later the installation started, progressed up to 11
of 21. Sometime here I disconnected from the net. 12 of 21 was nvidia upgrade
for DELL (why is nvidia upgrade available on micorsoft site?), however there
was no activity for more than one hour ( system not hanged up, but HDD led
off and CPU usage less than 2%. I shutdown the system.
can somebody enlighten what is happening?
