RC's are still supported but they have a limited life span, Shenan.
I still have some RC DVDs that are good until June of 2010.
@Popupkiller ... see if this restores the text in the WU window:
Step 1 -
Follow the steps here to verify the integrity of WMI:
http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/se...tus-correctly/
From an Elevated Command Prompt, run the verify command first
winmgmt /verifyrepository
If the message states " WMI repository is consistent " go to the next
step. If the " WMI repository is INCONSISTENT " message appears, try to
salvage it
winmgmt /salvagerepository
If the WMI can be salvaged, reboot, and see if the text is now showing
in the WU window.
If no joy ...
Step 2 -
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB931712
Run sfc /scannow from an Elevated Command Prompt following the steps in
the MSKB.
If no joy, then try a restore point that was created just *prior* to
this issue occurring.
The last step is to wipe the drive and reinstall the RC.
There's no sense putzing around with an 'in-place upgrade', aka Repair
Installation.
