I'm using one of my widows 2003 server to try to get to windows update. When
I arrive and start the update process it fails with error code 0x80072EEF.

The update log fie shows COMAPI as the offending area. What can be done to
fix this error.

Thanks

Can you post a copy of the last session from your windows update log?

The error 0x80072EEF is supposed to mean "internet login failure". Very rare.
If you saw this on your screen, take the next step and look at the actual entry in the update log file.

Most of the"80072E" errors are communications or connectivity-related issues (eg, problems getting your coputer to connect to the update server).
"You may receive an "Error 0x80072EE2," "Error 0x80072EE7," "Error 0x80072EFD," "Error 0x80072F76," or "Error 0x80072F78" error message when you try to use the Windows Update Web site or the Microsoft Update Web site"

Take alook to see if that article can be of any help.

The following services are needed by the processes at Windows Update. In services management console ( services.msc) they must NOT be *Disabled* in the Startup type.
They need to show a startup type of Manual or Automatic.
Here are the services & their Startup types:

Background Intelligent Transfer Service(BITS) Manual
Cryptographic Services Automatic
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Automatic
System Restore Service Automatic

Q: Are you using a proxy server?

Maurice,

The whole log file is too big, so I copied only the information back to the
last sucessful update. Even that is too big, so I just copied the end.
