My attempt to upgrade from W98SE to Win2000XP(Sp2) is stuck at installation
problem for "PCI Simple Communication Controller".
The messages I am getting from Device Manager are:
The drivers for this device is not installed (code 28)
Details: PCI\VEN_127A&DEV_2015&SUBSYS_2015127A&REV_01\3&61A AA01&0&80

Symptoms include: no audio & blocked volume control .

Event Viewer shows:
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal
processing. HRESULT was 8007043C from line 44 of
d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemo bj.cpp.

1)When I try ro reinstall, the" Wizard" cannot find necessart software.
2)When I search DriveGuide tool - no success to find identically named
driver. I try install similar one's but does not work.
3)When searching installed internal W200XP files, the reference is provided
to "Deskview by Siemens" as mfg PCI driver, with the note that it was not
ready when SP2 was release.
4)Searching Siemens, directed me further to Fujitsu-Siemens drivers download
area with the twist that I should first: "modify my configuaration to read
some error messages"! prior to starting downloading.... (Thats turns me off. )

DriveGude Toolkit shows for this PCI bus:

Capabilities: 32
Class: System
ClassGUID: {4D36E97D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
ConfigFlags: 0
DeviceDesc: PCI bus
HardwareID: ACPI\PNP0A03
Mfg: (Standard system devices)
ParentIdPrefix: 3&61aaa01&0
Service: pci
UINumberDescFormat: PCI Slot %1!u!

Can someone help.

Thanks,
Tad

You say "Win2000XP".
There is no such thing.
There is Windows 2000 and there is also Windows XP, two different operating
systems.
Since you also refer to SP-2, that may mean you are referring to Windows XP
since SP-2 was recently released for Windows XP.

"PCI Simple Communication Controller" may mean the modem but you also
reference "no audio & blocked volume control"
It sounds like you have multiple driver problems.
You need to install the latest Windows XP audio driver and you also need to
install the latest modem driver.
Check with the manufacturers web site for the latest Windows XP drivers for
those and possibly other hardware items.

Since this is a Windows Update newsgroup, you should take this to the
appropriate newsgroup, Windows XP or Windows 2000 as appropriate:
