won't install latest windows update software

When I go to the Windows update page, it tells me that it is checking for the
latest version of Windows Update Software, then nothing happens. I have made
sure that all pop ups are allowed and the firewall is disabled. What can I
do to resolve this issue? Please contact me with any help at

If that didn't work either, and you have Windows XP SP2 installed,
check that the WuWebControlClass is enabled in Internet Explorer:
