Hi;
Sometimes this can be caused by a corruption of the graphics drivers. I'd
recommend you download the latest drivers from the OEM website (ATI, Nvidia,
etc.) and then boot into Safe Mode, install that updated driver, and then
attempt to boot into Normal Mode again.
Also, boot into the CMOS Setup section, verify your hard drive(s) are still
recognized correctly, then Save-and-Exit to force a rewrite of the Setup
configuration. Truthfully, the real reason to do this is that the CMOS will
run an Auto scan of the hardware and repair any setting that may have been
misaligned due to a power fluctuation or similar event.
If that doesn't solve the problem, the best bet (without further info) would
be to boot from the Windows XP CD and then do a Repair install. This is
typically safe and no user files are lost. I've done many of these on XP
systems. If you have never done one before, here's a short checklist on the
steps involved:
