I have windows live messenger version 8.0 (build 8.5.1302.1018) with XP Pro
SP3. Every time I reboot my machine it clears the password and username. I
installed and uninstalled messenger, live mail and the sign in assistant
(which I don't think works at all) several times and it still does it. Is
there a way to completely uninstall all associated programs and files? I
noticed it always leaves a bunch of folders after the uninstall.

The "save password" box is checked as well.

I also cleared the protected storage key in the registry. This seems to be
problem with both Live mail and outlook. I have the same problem in outlook.

I tried creating a new user account with no change.

Greetings,

Out of random curiosity, are you using the Dutch version of Windows XP? The Dutch version of
XP has some problems with saving Passport credentials (although in fairness, that shouldn't
affect Outlook).

Jonathan,

I bought it from NewEgg so I assume it is a US copy.

Well I think I am about to give up on this and reload windows. I have been
pounding my head for months now. I even tried uninstalling live messenger and
running two differenet registry cleaners. I reloaded it this morning and it
still won't remember the password.

What the heck is with this site?? I get an email notification and out of 30+
tries it keeps taking me to a blank page. One time it worked to make my last
post. This time I had to search through my history to find it.
