Won't work properly with outlook

When I click the e-mail icon in the main messenger window I would like it to
take my to my inbox in outlook 2007 but instead it opens internet explorer on
the hotmail page. Outlook is set as my default mail handler (at least I think
it is). I am using Vista Home Premium. If anyone knows how to fix this it
would be much appreciated.
