Computer Club member has a new HP computer with Windows Vista Home Premium.
A new installation of Microsoft Office 2007 that has been Activated.

When Excel or PowerPoint are opened, all is as expected.

Open Word, the User Access Control kicks in and the monitor settings are
changed from 1,440 by ? pixels to 800 by 600 pixels. This makes Word
impossible to use. When Word is closed, back through the User Access Control
to normal monitor resolution.

Any thoughts?

Have you installed the latest Service Pack for Office 2007?

What are your computer specs? Is the latest video card driver installed?

When I went on the House Call to the member's home this morning, the service
pack was ready to install, so I let it. No change. I then installed all
optional updates to Windows. Didn't think of a video card driver for a new
computer. Will look into it tomorrow.

Just checking all possibilities here, no matter how silly they may sound.
In the new Office, the document window has a little slider bar in the lower
right corner. Slide that and the percentage view changes; that is, you can
view a document at 100 % or slide that bar to make it larger or smaller.
You sure that's not what's happening and being misunderstood as screen
resolution?

Like I said, just checking all the possibilities. I think this is unlikely
because while the document text would shrink or grow using the slider bar,
the menus and ribbons at the top of the window would stay the same.

The problem is more than Word being outsized, the screen resolution changes
all desktop icons are five times the size (that's why the Account User
Control gets involved).

Check the 'Properties' dialog for the applications and/or the shortcuts that
launch them. Click the 'Compatibility' tab & make sure that all checkboxes
are cleared. Sounds like "Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution" might have
somehow been activated.

Good Luck,
Keith
