Hi - I have just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista installed and
have just put on Word and Excel 97 from a Microsoft Office cd that I had.

Initially all appeared ok but I am now getting error message on both
packages as follows when I open them:-

Word - windows registry has reported one or more required files are damaged
or missing = run set up.

Excel - object libraries (stdole32.tlb) missing = run set up.

I have tried uninstalling both packages and cannot and putting the cd in
doesn't seem to make any differnce? I am still able to open and use both
packages but all the icons on my saved files do not look the same anymore?

Thanks

Unfortunately, the eleven year old Office 97 Office program
is not compatible with Windows Vista. You may wish to
upgrade to Office 2007.

How to buy the 2007 Microsoft Office suites:

Check your excel and word files first to make sure whether they are
corrupt or not. I once recovered some xls files by using a tool
called Advanced Excel Repair. I think it is a powerful tool to repair
corrupt or damaged Excel files.

Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/

And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe

Hope this will help.

That wasn't my experience.

Before I dumped Vista for other reasons, I had Word 97,
Excel 97 and Publisher 97 all patched up with SR-2 running
just fine.

This sounds like it might be a classic case of needing to do a
"Run as Administrator" on Setup.
