Word

whenever i try to open word my computer freezes and i have to reboot. I seem
to remember having this problem before but cant remember how i dealt with it!
Duh! Anyone out there with a brain that isin working order? Could really do
with some help!

Uninstall Word, reboot, install Word.

Otherwise since this is a Windows Update newsgroup, you should take
this to a Word or Office newsgroup:

FWIW, the usual fix for this is simply to Search for and rename ALL
instances of the file Normal.dot (the Word default template) - corruption of
which leads to all kinds of problems with word..
Reboot, and reopen Word, and a new Normal.dot file will be created, which
should be OK - and problem solved!

I deal so little with Word that I had forgotten that simple fix for
