Hi,

Configurations: IE6, XP-Pro SP2, Office 2003 SP2 and all automatic security
packs added.

The problems are getting bigger and bigger with Microsoft Word!!!!

We have a very strange fenomenom with the Word viewer. Normally when you
click on a link to a word document on a website the word viewer starts and
show the contents.

In my case IE downloads the document and when it is ready to show the
document it shows an empty window.

The now two weeks ago the viewer stopped suddenly viewing the document for
the INTRAnet side. The INTERnet side is still working. It affects all the
computers in our company. The webmaster of the intranet blames it on Windows
and he said that nothing has changed on the intranet. When he shuts down the
login security for the intranet website the word viewer does work correct.
????

It is still possible to download the document and open it in word. But now
we get the text that every document is defect or corrupted. When the user
ignores this message Word opens the document in a normal way.

This problem occurs only with the word viewer. Excel, Powerpoint, PDF-files
are not affected.

Does someone has an idea for a solution or a hint in wich direction we must
search?

Best regards,

Marcel

Hi

My configuration is similar to yours. 2 days ago I installed the latest
Security updates and suddenly had real problems - I couldn't send an
attachment via email; I could read but not save an attachment sent to me and
in boith cases Word was 'hanging'. Today I removed the security updates and
restarted - surprise, surprise, the problem has gone away - Word no longer
hangs.
The Updates I applied and subsequently removed are:
KB908531, KB911562, KB890830 (Malicious SW Removal Tool), KB12812
(Cumulative Security Update for Explorer), KB914454 (Junk Email Filter),
KB911565 (Media Player 10 Security Update), and KB911567 (Security for
Outlook Express - even though I don't use Express).
I plan to tell M'Soft about these. Regards, John Groom

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I've removed all the April updates 911567, 908532, 922562 and 912812. I
can't remove 911565, 914454, 12812 and 890830 because I have to remove Adobe
Acrobat 7.0.7 first. I installed that program after the updates and I'm
getting warnings not to do so. Up till now no progression.

Regards,

Marcel

John,

Finaly I found the problem. It was a checkbox in Word 2003. Tools, Options,
Common, Open webpages in the background.

Systematical search came up with this.

Marcel
