Workaround needed - KB834707 won't install on W98 first edition

Using Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106, the Windows Update page

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...riticalupdates
won't work at all. On hitting "Install Now" the computer sits for 15+
minutes while the update downloads, then says the install failed. No
explanation is given, and I've tried it three times now.

I tried the "Get help and support" option, but it directs me to this BROKEN
LINK:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=21608

I don't know what has gone wrong with IE -- I've installed previous updates
the same way successfully -- but please provide a pointer to the download as
a file so I can fetch and install it myself.
