workgroup PCs connecting to WSUS server in a domain

I have Windows update running fine for all my Domain computers but i want to
manage some workgroup PC's as well. I have put in the registry keys in
manually to be the same as the ones the group policy sets but none are
showing up in the console. I can see a HTTP 401 error code which indicated
authentication issues but i can browse to the location of the updates and
manually download them.

I have set anonymous access to the content folder and selfupdate folders but
still no luck.

Is it just not possible to have workgroup PCs connecting to a WSUS server
that is in the Domain.
