world of warcraft doesn't play too well while vista is running in the aero
mode for some reason. The display is jerky in the game even after setting
the game to default resolutions. I am using an HP dv8010 17" notebook, 1G
memory installed with ati graphics. Theres a windows Vista sticker on the
keyboard, Just bought this a few months ago. If you have this problem, Try
using the windows classic mode instead of aero, this solved the problem for
me. Not sure what i need to do to run aero with WOW.

Have you checked Windows Update for updated graphics drivers?

I've not had any issues running it with Aero here on my X1900XT.

If you right-click on the WoW shortcut and go to compatibility there's an
option for 'Disable desktop composition' this will automatically switch Aero
off when you start WoW so you don't need to go and manually turn it off and
on all the time.

How much video memory does your card have?

Just to let you know that I run WOW on 32bit vista home premium and I don't
need to shut down aero when I play and I notice no degredation in
performance in wow at all.

The only thing that I notice is that the sound in WOW is really not very
good with vista and the realtek vista drivers wereas in XP the sound was
great in WOW with the same exact hardware. But I attribute this to the
realtek drivers.

Make sure you have installed the drivers from ati/amds website.

Thank you Paul, not sure about graphics memory, vista doesn't recognize it
anymore, that may be the problem, i went to hp site to see if there were any
upgrades for vista, but didn't find my model listed. I know its a ATI Raedon
or something like that 6000x I bet it's the graphic card. nice trick
though, thanks for the heads up.
