Stop the Automatic Updates service, clear the contents of the Download
folder, and restart the Automatic Updates service should get rid of the
shield as the downloaded files are located in that folder until they are
installed. They usually hang around for about 10 days after installation and
clear out anyway. But if you're not installing from there, then
1. Stop the Automatic Updates Service.
Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service. Select Properties.
Under Service status, click Stop. Click OK.
2. Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
Click OK.
Delete the contents of the Download folder.
3. Start the Automatic Updates Service
Click Start. Choose Run. In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK. Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Select Properties. Under Service status, click Start.
Click OK.
Reboot if you have to - sometimes it's likes a reboot other times it's happy
without one.
