Hey guys,
Kind of upset here at the performance of WoW.
I have a pretty nice set up. I had XP64 before and WoW ran flawlessly.
Here's my setup.

Mac Pro 3.2ghz 8 Core.
8800GTS (Latest nvidia driver installed) 180.48
WD 300GB VelociRaptor HD.
Vista Ultimate 64bit. SP1

I honestly don't think I should be having any problems with lag at the
highest setting with this set up.
It must be the Vista Ultimate 64bit that's causing the lag some how...
I did try out an older driver for the video card and it's still the
same...
I have Aero turned off and optimized Vista also.

Anyone have any ideas?

It is the eye candy in DX10 that is slowing you down on highest
settings. XP has only DX9. Disable the DX10 settings in WOW if you
want to play at max.

I have an 880GT (not the GTS) but I am not on a mac and I was getting uneven
framerates, ~20-40 in normal areas with the highest setting and 1600x1200
24bit8x. However in Dalaran and Shatt I got about 5fps - completely
unplayable. I had to move down to "Medium" settings to get things to even
out (40-70fps) and Dalaran is still terrible (about 15fps) and I get out of
there as fast as I can. The "Shadows" setting seems to be a real hog, try
setting it off, things are not as nice lookingbut I would rather have less
shadows and more draw-distance!

You need to switch of some of the eye candy, as suggested by Mark.
You could also try a beta Driver. I have an 8800Gt (overclocked) and
it runs fine with settings maxed out.

have you got Anti-aliasing running as well? if your running the game at
high resolutions, theres no real need for anti-aliasing to be enabled.
also texture filtering on high settings can slow down the game as well,
i suggest you turn these settings to how i have them in the NV control
panel. See attached Image

what are these eyecandies?

The last big patch upped the graphics in WoW quite a bit. Scale back
shadowing and view distance may help (shadows are actually quite heavy and
do impact performance a lot, so scale them down a bit). Northrend is even
heavier than the rest of WoW.

The DirectX10, 9 stuff is completely unrelated.

Since WoW doesn't support Dx10, there is thus no Dx10 option to disable
in WoW. WoW still runs using Dx9.0c.

Don't know what to tell you Digiegg. Mac pro with 8 cores? Did you try
disabling CPU affinity (Run the game in single core mode)?

When you say the game is lagging, do you mean that you are get really low
framerates, or is wow reporting really high ping times? Usually lag
refers to network latency, but if you mean your game is stuttering at
times. I've noticed that WoW with WotLK seems to run slower while it's
buffering the textures as you enter new areas. Also WoW seems to use more
RAM than it ever has before.

My system runs WoW off a RAID0 with 2 320 WD drives (normal 7200rpm
generic drives), and since WotLK came out it takes a long time to pre-
load all the textures when I zone into a new area. Once I run around for
a bit and get all my attacks going the system finally seems to get
everything into RAM and it runs fine from there out.

Loading time seems to take much longer now as well.

Dunno what to say, check the WoW website. I seem to recal they have a
decent tech support area for troubleshooting stuff like this.

Since you're on a Mac Pro, maybe try running the other Client? (If you're
on Mac WoW, try Win Wow, or visa versa)

You can try some basic things. From the login page, select the "options"
button then pick Video.

Check your resolution and multisampling - the higher those are the harder
the video card has to work, the multisampling especially can be 1X or 2X if
you are worried about speed, then click on the "effects" entry to get the
effects screen. In the top is a "Video Quality" slider, try sliding it a
notch towards low, it will automatically set all the other options.

Another possibility is your video-card driver may be set to override any
in-game settings, bring up your Nvidia control panel and under "3D
Settings", make sure it is set to "Let the 3D application decide"

When you are in the game, you can hit Control-R (hold down the control key
and hit R) and it will show the framerate.

Hope that helps!
Mark
